The new cinematographic adaptation of Emerald Fennell by Wutuling Heights published his first trailer, offering a daring and erotically loaded version of the classic novel by Emily Brontë. The project features Margot Robbie in the role of Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff. Fennell, who won an Oscar for a promising young woman, directed the film, who should arrive in theaters on Valentine’s Day next year.
Margot Robbie and Jacob Elardi lead the casting
The film presents a solid set, notably Hong Chau, Martin Clunes and Breakout adolescence Owen Cooper. Margot Robbie, who recently led the world success of Barbie, will also appear later this month opposite Colin Farrell in a big daring trip. Jacob Elardi, known for Euphoria, Priscilla and on Swift Horses, will then play in the star of Frankenstein by Guillermo Del Toro.
Speaking of the project earlier this year, Elordi told Deadline: “Everyone’s performances – it’s breathtaking. It is an incredible romance. It is a real epic. It’s visually beautiful. The script is beautiful. The costumes are incredible.”
How was Wuthering Heights by Emerald Fennell been made?
The film sparked a major auction war in 2024 after the Saltburn of Fennell streaming success. Guardian reports suggest that Netflix offered USD 150 million, but Warner Bros has obtained the rights of 80 million USD, Fennell and Robbie promoting theatrical release.
Testing of early tests have led to mixed reactions. Some viewers would have described it as “aggressively provocative and abrasive tonnement”. A controversial scene, involving a suspension of the public, was distinguished for his shocking imaging.
The display panels promoting the film have already increased in the United States and the United Kingdom with the slogan “Drive Me Mad”, which is also in the trailer.
Why the casting of Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff triggered a debate
The choice to launch Elordi while Heathcliff attracted the reactions of certain fans of the novel, who noted the description of the character of Brontë as having darker skin. Casting director Karmel Cochrane addressed criticism earlier this year. “There was an Instagram comment that said that the casting director should be shot,” she said. “But wait until you see it, then you can decide whether you want to shoot me or not. But you really don’t need to be precise. It’s just a book. It’s not based on real life. It’s all art.”
Here is what to expect the new adaptation
Wuthering Heights was adapted several times before, including the version of William Wyler in 1939 and Andrea Arnold’s film in 2011. Fennell’s version promises to be a more intense and visually daring interpretation, aimed at bringing new energy to the timeless history of passion, revenge and obsession with Brontë.
With Robbie and Elordi in the center and Warner Bros supporting a theater release, the film should be one of the most spoken outings in Valentine’s Day in 2026.
