Kantara: Chapter 1 should be released in theaters on October 2, 2025. Directed by Rishab Shetty, the mythological action drama is distributed in Kerala by Prithviraj Productions of Prithviraj Sukumaran. However, it seems that the film should face a ban in the state.
Kantara: Is Chapter 1 prohibited in Kerala?
According to a report by Onmanorama, the president of the Kerala cinema exhibitors (Feuok), K. Vijayakumar, revealed that Prithviraj Productions demanded a profit of 55% of theaters for the film during his first two weeks. However, the organization is opposed to these terms, which has led to a ban.
Speaking with media personnel, Vijayakumar said: “Under our existing terms, other linguistic films distributed in Kerala can only demand 50% profits from the collections of films in the first days. But Prithviraj Productions required 55%, and this too for a period of two weeks.
In addition, the president of Feouk stressed that Malayalam film producers generally receive only 30 to 40% of the share when Malayalam films are distributed outside the Kerala.
Vijayakumar explained: “Thudarum was a huge success in Kerala, but when the film was distributed outside the state, producer M Ranjith was confronted with enormous losses. Large production houses require a huge share of profits for screening other outings of Kerala languages, but they have no problem to be resolved for a state of 30 to 40%.
It seems that the ban is already in force, and Prithviraj Productions has not yet responded to the association to solve the problem.
About Kantara: Chapter 1
Kantara: Chapter 1 would have turned around the old lost traditions of the Tulu region in Karnataka. The film will deepen the tradition of the Panjurli Daiva and Guliga Daiva deities, establishing a thematic connection to the first episode.
Located in the pre -colonial coastal karnataka, the film explores the intertwined experiences of the nature and the divinity of a man during the reign of the Kadambas of Banavasi. This background frame was initially reached as the root of the ancestral conflict in Kantara (2022).
In addition to Rishab Shetty, Rukmini Vasanth and Gulshan Devaiah are confirmed to play co-directors, actor Malayalam Jayaram also expected to play a key role.
