Sunjay Kapur assisted children in chasing ex -wife Karishma Kapoor and Portuguese citizenship: report
According to the content placed on the record, Suzay Kapoor was working on acquiring Portuguese citizenship for his family members, highlighting his commitment to provide them with global opportunities. This step aligns with a growing trend among rich families seeking European Union citizenship for its travel, educational and business benefits.
Suzay Kapoor’s efforts were reportedly obtained well by Karisma Kapoor, who is known for prioritizing the future prospects of her children. The discovery of the family of Portuguese citizenship underlines their desire to establish a broad international presence and reach the benefits associated with the membership of the European Union.
This development adds a personal dimension to the legal action going on about the sufficient assets of Sunjay Kapoor, which is almost worth Rs. 30,000 crores. His children, Samaira and Kian, have demanded a part of the legacy from the Delhi High Court, who questioned Sujay’s third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapoor, questioned the authenticity of the will. With a significant implication for family legacy and assets, the legal battle continues.
The court said, “Once I register the suit, the principle of LIS will apply.” Karishma Kapoor’s children, representing through their mother, alleged that Priya Kapoor has forged Suzay Kapoor’s desire to seize full control over her property.
Arguing for the plaintiff, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani said that the will was not revealed earlier, remained unregistered, and was read “in a hurry” at the Taj Hotel. He further pointed to the “suspicious circumstances”, given that the executor had allegedly become aware of the will a day before and it came through a family employee.
Senior advocate Rajiv Nair, who represented Priya Kapoor, said that it was not worth maintaining the suit. He argued that there were already beneficiaries under the Wadi Trust and a few days before the case was filed, property worth Rs 1,900 crore was received.
“It’s not that these people have been released on the streets. I am a widow with a six -year -old child. For 15 years, he was not seen anywhere,” Nair told the court. In response to a bench querry, he confirmed that the will was in his possession, presented it to Justice Jyoti Singh for inspection, and expressed readiness to share with the plaintiff, under a non-recommendation agreement.
Meanwhile, Rani Kapoor, mother of Sujay Kapoor, who was represented by senior advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, also gave voice to objections. He said, “Something unholy is going on. I am 80 years old and worried about my grandson. A trust installed by me has nothing for me? Regardless of the mail, I never found a copy of the will,” he said.
