The petition for divorce filed on September 11, 2025 cites irreversible differences. Tomka is demanding joint legal custody of her 17 -year -old daughter, while he is asking for physical custody herself. She also requested spousal support and has asked that in return, Ekon does not get any spousal support.
Akon, Born Elian Thiyam and Tomka were married in 1996, who joined their lives in a relationship in about three decades. Over the years, as a family person, the marriage of Ekon’s public personality has been married: they have previously revealed that he is the father of nine children, and he practices polygamy, which he says that he is part of his culture.
Speaking of his family, in the 2022 interview at the Zez Mills show, Ekon said, “(polygamy) is part of our culture. Absolutely,” and the couple, “for me, it looks normal, because it is culture for us. When we reached the western world, we did not go out of our African culture.”
He explained his role as a father, “My job is not doing all that extra goods and for these holidays and recurrence. While I am taking care of my responsibility to ensure that the family has a roof on their head and food, if I have time to do so and show love, yes, I will do it.”
So far, neither Ekon nor his representatives have issued an official statement about divorce. The filing triggers a legal and emotional isolation after about 29 years of marriage, with divorce to enter a new chapter for both sides.
