Idli Kadai, with Dhanush in the main role, was published in theaters on October 1, 2025. Written and directed by Dhanush himself, the family drama also presents Nithya Menen, Arun Vijay, Rajkiran and other loaded roles.
If you leave to watch the film in theaters this week, here is IHNS’s criticism.
The intrigue
Idli Kadai presents the story of Murugan, a young person whose parents run a small Idli boutique in their village. Coming from the humble beginnings, Murugan built a career in catering and won a job in the luxurious Hotel chain of Vishnu Vardhan.
In the middle of his hard work, Murugan falls in love with Vishnu Vardhan’s daughter, Meera, and decides to marry her. However, his life takes on a dramatic turn when his father dies. Even if he does not want to cancel his marriage, he decides to return to his hometown despite the threats of the family of his fiancée.
In a lively moment, Murugan cancels his wedding and withdrew in his village. Once back, he decides to follow in the footsteps of his father and manage their Idli store. But Meera’s brother, Ashwin, stands on his way, trying to take revenge on having tarnished the public image of their family.
What happens to Murugan and how its rivalry with Ashwin affects the Idli store forms the node of history.
Good
The greatest force of Idli Kadai is the simple and innocent relationship shared between Murugan de Dhanush and his father (played by Rajkiran). The two actors are known for their power performance, and this film is strongly based on their ability to provide comforting moments.
Although the script has trouble maintaining its original intention, the film is raised by impressive performance of the main distribution. As the film progresses, Dhanush establishes a balance between portraying a shy character and entering the place of a hero in a badly classic good vs story.
On the technical front, Idli Kadai has beautiful soundtracks composed by GV Prakash Kumar. The soul of songs and scores blends well in the story, offering a refreshing experience with organic music rather than songs designed for the appeal of viral social media.
In addition, the design of production, cinematography and publishing deserve special praise.
The bad
Idli Kadai is riddled with shots from the start. Which starts as a personal journey of self -identity and returning to your roots gradually turns into a generic good compared to the evil conflict, lacking credible development.
Consequently, many characters from Idli Kadai prove to be artificial with staged emotions. The scenario is bland and non -creative, which makes viewers difficult to connect with the characters. Dull writing and outdated treatment force a spectator to rub his forehead sometimes, making it a tedious watch.
The execution of the director Dhanush is at best under-parliament, even if it is an improvement in relation to the disorder that Nilavuku Enmel Ennadi Kobam (Neek) was, but the bar remains too low.
Performance
Idli Kadai has solid performance by the overall cast led by Dhanush. While the actor of Raayan maintains the story and prevents him from collapsing, the veteran actor Rajkiran offers such a nuanced representation and in layers.
With an intense and impressive performance by Arun Vijay as the main antagonist, Nithya Menen does a solid job as a female manager, exuding charm throughout. In addition, Shalini Pandey also has a commendable impact despite his limited time.
The verdict
Idli Kadai is a predictable and melodramatic company with Dhanush in the main role. With all the corners and corners of the story falling into the clichés of textbooks, this film ends up being the second best effort in the career of Dhanush, after Pa Pandi.
If you like the sentimental family dramas that take place in villages, with a trope of heroes against the villain, then this film could be worth your time.
