After some delay, the live action version of the famous Disney film, Tangled, talks have resumed. Earlier this year, it was announced that the film had been shelved indefinitely after creative and apparently even financial differences in the plans surfaced. The same had mainly come in the wake of Snow White’s struggling performance at the box office. Now, DEADLINE has reported that the popular and fan-favorite animated story could soon come to life on screen with Scarlett Johansson eyeing a pivotal role.
Tangled discussions resume with Scarlett Johansson buzz
According to the report, Disney is reexamining its plans for the live-action Tangled, resuming early development at the studios. Scarlett Johansson is rumored to be wanted for the role of Mother Gothel. Meanwhile, Michael Gracey will direct the project behind the cameras, while Jennifer Kaytin Robinson will handle the script.
Snow White’s failure at the box office doesn’t, on the whole, reflect the kind of ticket runs its counterparts had instead. The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and, more recently, even Lilo and Stitch, have all seen a favorable outcome in the live-action space. Tangled, featuring its fan-favorite characters Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, embarks on a promising line of action. However, it is precisely these roles that have long been debated and are the cause of delays. For them, the casting must be very precise from the start, for success. Any discontent can result in a similar fate, much like Snow White.
However, fans of the Tangled series have expressed interest in having interesting actors fill the position, with each name suggestion more surprising than the last. The 2010 film had Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi voicing the characters and received a lot of love for it. Sabrina Carpenter and Milo Manheim were popular choices for the roles.
