References to beef and beef eating are common in Malayalam cinema. Not anymore. According to an informed source, all references to beef as food will be banned by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
CBFC to ban references to beef eating in all films from now on
Recently ‘Beef Biryani’ was mentioned in a Malayalam film. Condition CBFC had removed it. Now the makers have gone to court in this matter.
But a source related to this matter says that CBFC’s displeasure over Beef Biryani is not a one-time thing.
The source said, “References to beef consumption in Malayalam films have been normalized over the years. It may be part of the normal cuisine for a certain section in Kerala. But for the rest of the county, the cow is a sacred animal in Hinduism. From now onwards references to beef will be removed from all films.”
