Actress Karisma Kapoor’s wife Priya Sachdev Kapoor’s high-profile legal battle over the legacy of her husband and late industrialist Sanjay Kapoor continued in the Delhi High Court on Wednesday. Amid allegations of forgery and manipulation made by Karisma Kapoor’s children after her marriage to Sanjay Kapoor, Priya Sachdev Kapoor strongly defended the authenticity of Sanjay Kapoor’s will.

Senior advocate Rajiv Nair, representing Priya Kapoor, argued before Justice Jyoti Singh that mere typographical errors or spelling mistakes in the will do not make the document invalid. Nair said, “The only ground for challenging a will is that the deceased was not of sound mind or was under duress. Spelling mistakes, wrong address, or errors like writing ‘testatrix’ instead of ‘testatrix’ are not valid grounds.”
Furthermore, the defense said that the fact that the will came to light seven weeks after Sanjay Kapoor’s death does not render it invalid. “Is this challenge acceptable under law? Suppose I have the will in my pocket, and it comes to light at the appropriate time, will it be declared invalid?” The lawyer asked the question.
The legal battle centers on the will dated March 21, 2025, in which Sanjay Kapoor’s entire personal property, reportedly worth Rs 30,000 crore, has been given to Priya Sachdev Kapoor. This has been strongly opposed by Karisma Kapoor’s children Samaira and Kiyan, who have accused Priya of forging documents and attempting to gain exclusive control over Sanjay Kapoor’s property.
Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing the children, has raised serious doubts over the validity of the will, highlighting several inconsistencies including the use of feminine pronouns “she” and “her” to describe Sanjay Kapoor in several sections of the document. Jethmalani termed Priya Kapoor as “a serious gambler” and described the alleged will as a “fabricated document” designed to disinherit the children and consolidate control over the property.
Addressing the witnesses to the will, Nair pointed out the credibility of the person who attested the document was a chartered accountant and a company secretary associated with Sanjay Kapoor’s business. He also revealed that affidavits of these witnesses were submitted in the court to prove the authenticity of the will.
The heirs have challenged the exclusion of Sanjay’s mother, Rani Kapoor, from the will and the disproportionate share given to Priya Kapoor and her minor son, sparking a dispute over property distribution.
The court has adjourned the case to Friday for further arguments, as both sides prepare to prove their positions in the complex inheritance dispute, which has attracted wide media and public attention.
