The much awaited first look promo of Arasan, the latest addition to Vetri Maaran’s Vada Chennai universe, has finally been released in select theaters across Tamil Nadu. Written and directed by Vetri Maran, the film stars Silambarasan TR in the lead role. The five-minute long promo offers a glimpse of a tough world, expanding the story set in Vada Chennai (2018).
The aging gangster, the murder trial and a movie within a movie
According to Cinema Express, in the promo, Silambarasan is seen playing a dual role, one as a young man with a stylish, funky look and the other as an older man with gray hair. An older version of his character appears in court, accused of three murders. During the court scene, Silambarasan’s character is shown talking to filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar, who appears as himself. He asks Nelson to make a film based on his life story and even requests Dhanush to cast him in the lead role.
The promo ends with the line, “An untold story from the world of Vada Chennai”, confirming that Arasan is set in the same universe as the 2018 film starring Dhanush.

The music of the film is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, marking his first collaboration with Vetri Maaran. The director, who is known to have worked with Santhosh Narayanan and GV Prakash in his previous projects, has taken a new turn by teaming up with Anirudh for Arasan. The theme music, released by Anirudh on his birthday, has already garnered attention despite being in line with the tone of the film.
Silambarasan also shared his appreciation towards Anirudh on X (formerly Twitter), wishing him a happy birthday and appreciating the composer’s contribution to the project.
Arasan is produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu under the V Creations banner. The film marks the first collaboration between Vetri Maran and Silambarasan TR, who were originally scheduled to star in Vada Chennai before Dhanush took on the role of Ambu. In Vada Chennai, Dhanush played the role of a carrom player who after several betrayals becomes a gangster and the leader of his fishing community.
According to Cinema Express, the online release of Arasan promo is scheduled on October 17 at 10:07 am. Fans who watched the promo in theaters have already shared the clip online, increasing excitement about the film’s story and characters. While the release date of Arasan is unknown, the promos have successfully raised expectations by promising to be another intense chapter from Vetri Maaran’s cinematic universe.
