“I don’t believe in awards”: Vishal shares his views on the concept of recognition including National Film Awards

Vishal is currently working on his upcoming release Magudam, a gangster action drama directed by Ravi Arasu. Recently, the actor spoke out strongly against the awards culture in cinema and criticized how a panel of only a few people instead of considering public opinion decides who gets awarded, even at the sought-after National Awards.

Vishal hits out at awards culture

Speaking on an unfiltered podcast called Yours Frankly Vishal, the actor expressed his dissatisfaction with the entire concept of awards. He said, “I don’t believe in awards. Awards are a crazy thing. How can four people sit and decide favorite actor, favorite supporting actor and favorite film for seven crore people?”

Vishal further said, “Are these four people everyone’s boss? I am saying this about the National Awards also. You have to do a survey and ask people. This is important. These awards are like gathering eight different people and deciding who is the best actor. I don’t believe in awards; it’s nonsense.”

The actor stressed that his views are not influenced by the lack of awards in his career, but by his strong distrust in the system. He further added, “I have even told the organizers that if I get any award, I will throw it in the garbage, or if it is made of gold, I will sell it and donate the money. I ask them not to give me any award and instead give it to someone truly deserving.”

Concluding his statement, Vishal clarified that he does not accept the award because of his personal beliefs. However, he acknowledged that other people may value such recognition, which is why he urges organizers to honor those who truly appreciate and deserve it.

Vishal’s upcoming film

Vishal will next be seen in Magudam, a gangster action drama, where he will reportedly play multiple avatars. The film stars Vettaiyan fame Dushara Vijayan in the lead role, while the music and background score is being composed by GV Prakash Kumar.

The film, directed by Ravi Arasu, was recently surrounded by rumors of a rift between the director and Vishal over creative differences, with some reports claiming that the actor has taken over the directorial responsibilities. However, Ravi has reportedly rejected these claims.

Looking ahead, the Thupparivaalan actor will soon be tying the knot with actress Sai Dhanshika after their engagement in August 2025.
