Wash Level 2 made less than Rs 15 crore at the box office. The psychological supernatural drama opened with a gross of Rs 1.15 crore in India, and closed with a gross of Rs 11.65 crore (total Rs 14.75 crore) at the box office. The film grossed around Rs 6 crore in Gujarati, while the Hindi version grossed around Rs 5.65 crore.
Considering the costs involved, the film’s opening numbers were respectable. However, the immense success of the Hindi remake of the original film had created a great deal of hype and anticipation for the sequel, which the film ultimately failed to capitalize on. It had a slow start and then its trend faded. Its performance essentially tanked after a 65% decline in the second week, followed by an 80% decline in the third week.
The film made only Rs. 5.5 crore nett in Gujarat, which is not enough. So much so that the Hindi remake of the original Vash Shaitan made Rs. Earned Rs. 9 crores in the state of Gujarat, which was seen as low performance. Wash Level 2 can reach about half that.
For those unaware, Vash Level 2 takes place 12 years after the first part. The film was written and directed by Krishnadev Yagnik, who also directed the original part. The film stars Janaki Bodiwala along with Hiten Kumar, Hitu Kanodia, Monal Gajjar and Chetan Dahiya in lead roles.
The film is now preparing for its digital debut. It is scheduled to release on Netflix from October 22.
