Thamma is looking to collect an estimated Rs. Earning Rs 4 crore on first Monday. The horror-comedy starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui earned Rs. Earned Rs 94 crore in 7 days of theater performance in India. The film should register a rise tomorrow on Discount Tuesday, when ticket prices at multiplex chains will be reduced to nominal rates. If it succeeds in registering a solid surge, it will enter Rs. 100 crore club just tomorrow.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar of Munjya fame, the latest Maddock horror-comedy outing should aim for a healthy performance on weekdays, as its hold at the box office over the next few days will decide how far the film can go from here. It is likely to see a good bounce in the second weekend as there are no major releases except SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Epic and a few re-releases including Shah Rukh Khan’s Dil Se, Devdas, Jawan, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na, Om Shanti Om, Chennai Express and Main Hoon Na.
Additionally, there are no new significant Hindi releases till Ajay Devgan’s De De Pyaar De 2 (November 14), which means Thamma has good scope to record a healthy performance and end her theatrical run on an encouraging note.
The numbers are fine for the artists and costs involved, but for the IP value and festival releases involved, it needs to be better. MHCU’s previous film Stree 2 collected Rs. Had earned more than. 600 crores while Munjya earned around Rs. 100 crores. Stree, the leading film of the popular cinematic world, has collected around Rs. 124 crore nett in India. Thamma will soon cross the lifespan of Munjya and then move towards the finale of Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree.
Let’s see if the Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna starrer can top the MHCU lead and become the highest-grossing standalone franchise film within its universe.
