Rashmika Mandanna on 8 hour shift debate, says ‘I work more than required’, admits she doesn’t have the same opinions as Deepika Padukone

Ever since Deepika Padukone left Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit and Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD, there has been a constant debate in the film industry over the demand for 8-hour work shifts. Rashmika Mandanna, who recently played a vampire in Thamma, was praised by The Girlfriend producer Srinivas Kumar for having no such working-hours clause in her contract. And now, the Pushpa 2 actress herself shares her thoughts on work-life balance.

During the promotional interview of her upcoming film The Girlfriend, Rashmika Mandanna admitted that she works excessively. The actress further said that it is not highly suggestable. “I think we are glorifying the fact that we work more which is not good. I work more, and I am telling you, it is not highly suggestable. Don’t do that. It is not sustainable. Don’t do that. What is convenient for you, do what is right for you. Get those 8 hours, get those 9-10 hours too because trust me it will save you in later ages,” Mandana told Gulte.

She added, “I overwork myself because I can and should do more work than a normal human being. But I’m also not one of those people who will tell my teams that I can’t do something for them. If I know they’re struggling and they say ‘No, we only have this space so far and we have to do so much shooting in this time’ and all that, I understand that and I would give up.”

Rashmika Mandanna further said that if she could choose, she would love to have a proper schedule of working hours. She said, “If I could choose for myself, I would say ‘Please don’t make us do that to the actors, because there’s too much going on.’ Not even an actor. The director, the lightman, the music, everybody, just, as you know office hours are 9 to 6 or 9 to 5 or 9 to 4, let us do this.”

The actress, who recently got engaged to Vijay Deverakonda, said she also wants to focus on her family life, while also admitting that she has no right to ask for fixed working hours. “There’s still a family life that I want to focus on, there’s still my sleep that I want to attend to, I still want to work so, you know, later I won’t regret that I wish, you know, I was healthy and fit and used to work out when I was younger. I’m still thinking about my future. But right now I don’t need to say anything because I’m carrying too much burden on myself,” the Thamma actress concluded.
