Baahubali: The Conclusion was a blockbuster that held the record of the highest-grossing film of all time in India for almost eight years. Last year, the film was usurped by Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa: The Rule. This may be the end of the story, but the situation may change again, as Baahubali is gearing up for a massive re-release this week.
Pushpa 2 made its box office performance at Rs. Rs 1374 crore. 30 crores ahead of Baahubali 2. This is not a bridgeable gap. In fact, some recent re-releases have earned more than this, and here is Baahubali. The film made Rs. Has earned more than. With one day left, pre-sales worth Rs 6 crore have already been done for the weekend in India. As of now, the pre-sale is only for the original Telugu version, with other dubbed versions also joining today.
There have been several re-releases of Telugu films after the pandemic, but almost all of these were one-day only events with no impact. Some Hindi and Tamil re-releases have performed well. Baahubali should do better than the regular Telugu re-releases; It needs to be seen how it performs in Hindi as it may eventually increase the collections.
However, there is one caveat. The re-release is not just of Baahubali 2, but both parts of the franchise have been edited into one film, so the box office cannot be attributed to any one film. How the re-release issues will be divided is a matter to think about. The simple thing is to divide them in half and combine them in both the films. It will probably be done that way unless something else happens.
The other record that Baahubali 2 could achieve is as the highest-grossing Indian film of all time, which is currently held by Dangal. However, this is a bit high as Dangal was priced at Rs. 170 crores more than this. For the film to have any shot, it needs a breakout in the United States and Japan. Still, this will require money. More than Rs 300 crore, which is not impossible but extremely unlikely.
