plot

Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra is the story of Chandra, a mysterious woman who was brought from Sweden to Karnataka by the orders of Muthon (the Elder). He is part of a secret organization that works around the world for a specific mission.

Since Chandra is advised to keep a low profile in Bengaluru, she takes up a night shift job in a café, and leads a quiet life. Opposite his new house lives Sunny, a medical college dropout who soon becomes infatuated with him.

However, as her story unfolds, Chandra finds herself in conflict with an organ-trafficking syndicate and she is revealed to be much more than she seems. How she foils the terror with the help of old and new allies is the central story of the film.

Good

Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra is one of those rare films that keeps you hooked from the beginning. The film presents a rich and engaging narrative that blends the superhero genre with elements of supernatural folklore.

The creators strive to create a mix of truly entertaining stories under one umbrella, and it’s clear that the amount of work that went into the writing is what makes it stand out.

Unlike other films in the genre, Loca does not copy its Western counterparts, but instead offers an authentic take on the world of superheroes. As an audience, we are drawn in the novelty of the narration, supported by some brilliant dialogue.

Driven by an impressive cast, the film redefines what it means to create original and ground-breaking stories, even if it occasionally struggles with clichés. With its impressive world-building, the film makes great use of visual effects while maintaining authenticity.

The reimagining of folkloric characters like Kalliyankaatu Neeli, Chathan, Odiyan and Kadamattathu Kathanar form the backbone of the story, making it especially attractive to those who have grown up listening to their stories.

Dominic Arun has crafted an impressive film with almost perfect execution, and it seems only fitting that he gets the praise he deserves after his previously underappreciated film Tharangam.

In terms of technical aspects, Jake Bejoy breathes soul into every scene through his music, enhancing the overall experience. Additionally, Nimish Ravi (cinematographer) and Chaman Chakko (editor) have created a visually captivating and well-paced film.

bad

When it comes to its shortcomings, the film suffers somewhat from the clichés embedded in its narrative. At times, the cinematic experience meanders, disrupting the momentum of the story.

However, this does not significantly affect the overall viewing experience, as the film makes effective use of the superhero genre.

Furthermore, the saturation created by Marvel and DC superhero movies brings a certain fatigue, especially when the full story is yet to be explored and audiences have to wait for future installments. Nonetheless, these are small prices to pay in the long run.

Display

Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra delivers one of Kalyani Priyadarshan’s finest performances, surpassing the impact she made in Hridayam, where she co-starred with Pranab Mohanlal.

Her subtle but nuanced portrayal breathes life into Chandra, which is further complemented by Neslen’s strong co-lead performance. The impressive supporting cast also deliver top notch performances, especially Sandy Master with his wonderful villainy.

Additionally, the cameos of Dulquer Salmaan and Tovino Thomas are also noteworthy, with the Minnal Murali actor setting the show on fire through his spontaneous and energetic performance.
