Prithviraj Sukumaran gave a great speech at the Globetrotter event in Hyderabad in the presence of SS Rajamouli, MM Keeravani, Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and others.
Globetrotter Event: Prithviraj Sukumaran reveals ‘friend’ Prabhas told him ‘famous SS Rajamouli quote’: “The first 5 minutes of the film will shock you…Superstar Mahesh Babu really deserves this film…Priyanka Chopra’s Jhilmil is one of the greatest Indian productions of all time”
Prithviraj started by thanking MM Keeravani for his performance on the theme based on the former’s character. He later said, “I have grown up listening to all the timeless classics you have created in Malayalam cinema. It is an utmost honor to finally be collaborating with you in a film.”
Prithviraj Sukumaran then said, “A few years ago, I was in the middle of my directorial work when one day, I got a message from Rajamouli sir. It said, ‘Hi Prithvi. This is SS Rajamouli. The character of the antagonist in my next film has come out very well. It is one of the best characters I have thought of. Would you be interested in doing it?’. Those were his exact words. I still have that message.”
He further added, “I nonchalantly replied with ‘Sure Sir’, but I’m sure he caught the excitement in me. A few days later, I was in his office with the most beautiful German Shepherd! The famous SS Rajamouli narration, about which my friend Prabhas had told me so much, began. 5 minutes into the narration, I was left in awe. For the remaining 3 hours, I listened to it not as an actor listening to the narration pitch, but like a little boy, Who has got his hands on the next edition of his favorite comic book! The scale, the vision, the ambition – everything was India’s greatest contemporary film production, pushing its own boundaries in never-before-seen territory.
He added, “But what really took my breath away was the audacity of the imagination. How could someone think like this? Where do you get the inspiration to paint something like this?”
Prithviraj Sukumaran was pleased and said, “Remember what I told you about the first 5 minutes? You can come back to that the day the film releases!”
He further praised SS Rajamouli, saying, “He trusted me with the most complex, most emotional and physical character I have ever played. Thank you sir for the trust, confidence and the completely torturous process! I wouldn’t have had it any other way.”
Prithviraj Sukumaran then said about Mahesh Babu, “If my memory is correct, the first Telugu film I saw in the theater was pokiri (2006). From then until now, the way you’ve owned your legacy and the way you’ve created your legacy is truly inspiring. For the superstar that you are, you really deserve this film and this film really deserves you!”
Further praising Priyanka Chopra, he said, “I have always been a big fan of PC. shimmeringly Barfi (2012) is on my list of the greatest performances ever by an Indian actor! It has been a privilege to see you transform into Mandakini from so close.”
Prithviraj Sukumaran signed off by saying, “This is SS Rajamouli once again taking Indian cinema to the world. This time bigger than ever, hopefully better and definitely bolder.”
