Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt were arrested by the police on December 7, 2025, in connection with a Rs 30 crore fraud complaint filed by Dr. Ajay Murdia, founder of IVF chain Indira IVF.
Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife arrested in Rs 30 crore IVF fraud case: Report
According to the FIR lodged at Bhupalpura police station in Udaipur, Dr Murdia alleges that Bhatt, his wife, his daughter and several associates persuaded him to invest more than Rs 30 crore in several film projects, including a biopic based on the life of his late wife. The promoters had reportedly promised returns of up to Rs 200 crore.
The complaint states that after the initial funds were disbursed in installments, many of the promised film projects were halted midway, while some were released, but without giving the agreed credit or returns to Dr. Murdia. The FIR names a total of eight accused: Vikram Bhatt, Shwetambari Bhatt, his daughter, and associates including a co-producer and additional intermediaries.
Vikram Bhatt has strongly denied the allegations. In a statement to the media, he described the FIR as “misleading”, adding that the documents submitted could be forged. He said that he was not aware of this complaint till recently. Bhatt claimed that production was halted only after Dr. Murdia stopped funding, and said he had “evidence including contracts and communications” to support his innocence.
Investigators from Rajasthan and Mumbai Police are now examining bank statements, contractual agreements and communications related to the alleged investments and film projects. Officials have indicated that more arrests may be made as the investigation deepens.
