Bangur Nagar Police has arrested television actress Masoomi Mewawala, known for her role in the popular serial ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’, along with her father Rajesh Mewawala and brother Bhargav Mewawala for defrauding a 60-year-old woman of Rs 1.17 crore through a fake samosa-vada pav investment scheme.

The trio targeted vulnerable senior citizens, especially women, promising them daily profits from an alleged private food chain, marking the seventh such case against Masoomi and her father across Mumbai.
The scam came to light in 2022 when the complainant, while visiting her jailed husband in Arthur Road Jail, was introduced to Rajesh Mewawala by his wife; In subsequent meetings, Masoomi and Bhargava talked about high returns on food business investments. The victim invested Rs 25 lakh after initially receiving small daily payments of Rs 2,000 to build trust – a common tactic police say the family adopted – taking her total investment to Rs 1.17 crore before the accused disappeared and switched off their phones. Even after Rajesh posted bail in 2023 and a loan agreement between the victims for 2024, no returns were received, leading to the FIR.
Police tracked the family to their Lower Parel residence on November 28, using technical surveillance and human intelligence, and booked them under the Maharashtra Protection of Interests of Depositors in Financial Establishments Act, 1999, and Indian Justice Code provisions for fraud and forgery. Investigators noted the Mewawals’ pattern of preying on elderly women and are now tracing money transactions between several ongoing cases. This high-profile arrest underlines growing concerns over investment fraud disguised as small business opportunities in Mumbai.
