In the last three years, big films have been released in the first week of December. In 2023, it was Animal, which collected more than Rs. 500 crore nett in India. Last year, Pushpa 2 (Hindi) rewrote the record books, becoming the biggest Hindi film of all time. Both these films also had a big opening.
This year the situation is a little different. Dhurandhar didn’t have a strong opening, but by the end of its first week, it matched the other two films in terms of same-day earnings. In fact, the Thursday box office for Dhurandhar is the second highest box office for any Hindi film after PK, which collected Rs. Earning of Rs 27.50 crore on holiday. In terms of non-holidays, it is the biggest film of all time, surpassing Pushpa 2 (Hindi).
Looking ahead, Animal added Rs. Its total gross after the first week stood at Rs 212 crore, while Pushpa 2 added Rs. 350 crores. It’s a very different trajectory between the two films, with Animal losing steam in its third week, as well as facing heavy competition in its fourth week during the holiday period. Dhurandhar has performed better than these two films so far, it will be expected that he will perform even better than them.
