Box Office: Zootopia 2 creates history, becomes the second Hollywood film to cross the US$500 million mark in China

Zootopia 2 is winning at the box office with each passing day. The animated film is taking global markets by storm with its unprecedented performance, breaking existing records and setting new standards, especially in China. The film has now created history at the Chinese box office. As you read, Zootopia 2 became the second Hollywood film to cross the US$500 million mark in a single overseas market. Before this, Avengers: Endgame could achieve this big milestone.

Backed by Walt Disney Studios, Zootopia 2 grossed a solid US$55.4 million in its third 3-day weekend in China, trailing Inside Out 2’s US$57.5 million in its third weekend. It saw a decline of 52.2 percent compared to the previous weekend, which marks a strong hold. The film made US$19 million on its third Sunday, the biggest third Sunday ever for a non-Chinese film. Zootopia 2 has grossed US$503.8 million in 19 days since its theatrical release in China.

Currently the second best Hollywood hit in China, Zootopia 2 needs US$130 million to claim the top spot. For the record, Avengers: Endgame remains on top with a whopping figure of US$632.1 million. The film will have to outpace the upcoming wave of Avatar: Fire and Ash to have a chance to claim the No. 1 spot in China.

On the global front, Zootopia 2 has already crossed the US$1 billion mark on its second Friday. The film is expected to gross around US$1.5 to 1.7 million theatrically. After the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash, it will largely depend on its catch whether it surpasses Jha 2 or touches the US$2 million mark.
