The love story of Suriya and his wife Jyotika has always made headlines, making them one of the most loved celebrity couples in cinema. Now, the retro actor’s father, Shivakumar, has revealed how he was initially against his son’s relationship and how he finally agreed to it due to Suriya’s adamant nature.
Surya’s father Shivakumar had initial disagreements over his son’s marriage with Jyothika.
Speaking to Galata, Suriya’s father Shivakumar revealed that initially he did not approve of his son’s relationship with Jyotika. The former actor said, “Initially, I didn’t accept his love. However, he was very stubborn and said he would only be with her; otherwise, he would be alone all his life. Then I thought about how, during my career, I acted in about 150 films, and most of them had the concept of love marriage. So I finally agreed.”
Furthermore, Shivakumar revealed that Suriya was a very shy person at that time, and it was Radhika Sarathkumar who convinced him to go ahead and talk to Jyotika, which eventually turned into a relationship. The former actor also teased him, saying, “He was just living on his own, and now he’s a father of two.”
For those unaware, Suriya and Jyothika got married on 11 September 2006 after falling in love on the sets of Poovellam Kettuppar and dating for some time. After marriage, they became parents of two children Diya and Dev.
Surya’s work front
Suriya is all set to hit the big screen with his fantasy action entertainer Karuppu. The film reportedly tells the story of a lawyer who gets possessed by a deity to fight against the injustice done to certain sections of the society.
Directed by RJB (RJ Balaji), the film stars Trisha Krishnan in the lead role and is expected to release in summer this year.
Meanwhile, the Soorarai Pottru actor is currently working on Suriya46, a family drama that will star Raveena Tandon and Mamita Baiju in the co-lead roles.
Additionally, Suriya is also working on a police action-comedy film tentatively titled Suriya47. Directed by Awesham fame Jeethu Madhavan, the film is expected to be based on the adventure story of an eccentric cop. Along with Nazriya Nazim Fahadh in the co-lead role, Neslen will also play an important role in the film.
