O’ Romeo faced a box office slump and grossed Rs. Earned around Rs 8.25 crore on the third day in India. This represents a 30 percent decline compared to Saturday, which was Valentine’s Day. The decline was expected, but not to this extent, however, to be fair, most films have seen similar or even greater declines, so it’s not just a problem with this film.
More than the drop compared to Saturday, the fact that Sunday was up less than 10 percent compared to its opening day is troubling. Yes, there was some feeding on the first day, but even taking that into account, it would be at most 20 percent more, which is not good at all. There was a cricket match which may have hurt business in the later hours, but the weakness was visible from the morning and afternoon shows only, so it is more on quality and reception than external factors.
The opening day itself was fatal for the film as far as economics were concerned, but it was a good start for the face value of the film and its cast. The hope was that if it somehow managed to fare well, it would have something to hold on to at the box office until Dhurandhar: The Revenge came out next month. After Sunday, this now appears to be a difficult task, if not downright impossible.
The three-day weekend amounts to Rs. Approx Rs 27.50 crore nett. The collections are expected to drop to a very low level from today onwards, and the first week of the film will be around Rs. 35 crores nett. From there it reached even Rs. Earning Rs 50 crore in your lifetime will be a difficult task.
