According to a report in Variety India, the guild said that its role in such controversies is limited. With both sides maintaining their respective positions, members of the body suggested that the issue should be handled by legal teams through proper channels. The development marks a formal step back from informal mediation, indicating that the standoff may now escalate to litigation.
Controversy arose after Ranveer’s exit don 3Which is being produced by Excel Entertainment and directed by Farhan Akhtar. Reports suggest that the production house is demanding a compensation of Rs 40 crore citing losses incurred during the pre-production and development stage of the film. However, Ranveer is said to dispute the extent of financial liability imposed on him.
Reports suggest that discussions continued between the actor and producers until sometime before the release stalwartAfter which he decided to withdraw from this project. While they reportedly offered to pay a certain amount as a gesture of goodwill, the offer was withdrawn when the compensation figure presented by Excel was deemed excessive. People familiar with the matter claim that Ranveer does not believe he bears contractual responsibility for the damages claimed.
This disagreement was also discussed in a recent meeting organized by Aamir Khan in Mumbai, which was attended by several leading producers and studio heads including Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala, Ekta Kapoor, Zoya Akhtar and Punit Goenka. Both sides reportedly submitted documents to support their claims.
