Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge continues to post solid pre-sale records at the box office. As of Tuesday morning in the US, the spy action drama has crossed the USD 2 million mark in advance sales, a strong first weekend sales jump. This is a historic achievement as no Bollywood film could touch the US$2 million mark in pre-sales. The previous best was Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, which recorded around US$1.50 million in its pre-bookings.
Talking about Dhurandhar 2, around US$700K of its pre-sales came from the Wednesday premiere alone, while another US$300K is for the Thursday opening day. The top spots are at an occupancy rate of 50 percent, leading to a sales boom during the opening weekend. For the record, the film is close to US$400K on both Friday and Saturday, while Sunday is over US$200K.
With still 8 days left for the premiere, the Ranveer Singh starrer is set to cross the US$3 million mark, with a strong possibility of crossing the US$4 million mark as well, making it one of the highest grossers ever for Indian cinema.
The top pre-sales of Indian films in the United States were of Baahubali: The Conclusion, RRR, and Kalki 2898 AD, which were worth more than US$4 million. Dhurandhar: The Revenge will be joining them. It may or may not beat them in terms of money, but it will definitely beat them in terms of ticket sales, that too by a huge margin. Originally, those films had huge premieres, about US$30 for the ATP, then more than US$20 for the rest of the weekend. On the other hand, Dhurandhar: The Revenge is selling at standard rates of around US$14-15. Even at the same earnings as those three, its ticket sales will be 50-75 percent higher, and of course, it could be even higher.
That said, the film directed by Aditya Dhar has the potential to gross over US$10 million in its opening weekend alone, which would set a rare record for Bollywood films in the North American markets. Notably, only three Hindi language films could reach this milestone in their entire theatrical run; Dhurandhar 2 aims to achieve this with its weekend debut.
