What kind of response have the songs received? love mafia?
The response has been amazing. The album is gaining attention globally. The songs are being played in Mauritius and have also been picked up by many radio stations in the US. The plan was to make the album a global hit so that everyone could enjoy the music. Thankfully, it is slowly finding its audience, and so, I am excited and very happy (smiles).
With this album you’ve really gone pan-world. Why did you take on the challenge of singing in languages you don’t usually speak?
I wanted to try something new and different. It took me a year to complete the album. We made 17 songs and finalized 11 of them. So, the songs which are part of the album are the best. Since I had to sing in Korean, Latin, and Swahili, I wanted to get the pronunciation and intonation correct. That was the only way I could do it justice. These languages took the most time to learn.
Initially, we thought of keeping the album only in Hindi and English. But we realized that it would have been the same old, boring thing! Today the audience wants something new. I thought it was a great opportunity to reinvent myself as a musician and try something different. Furthermore, the Afro House style is taking over the world. It combines emotions with dance, and our song belongs to this place. We have also included Latin, Korean, Swahili, Hindi and English. I hope people enjoy it.
In a picture from the album shoot, you can be seen posing with two dogs. This looks quite interesting…
(smiles) I love animals. My goal in life is to earn enough money so that I can buy a farm and open an animal rescue center there! Talking about the photoshoot, it happened in Europe and these two dogs were there. I asked the woman handling the dogs if I could take a picture with them, and she immediately agreed. Meanwhile, the photographer was also quite surprised by the idea. I wasn’t sure how the dogs would react, since they were Dobermans. I was pleasantly surprised, he was so well behaved that he posed very well for the photo.
The team behind the album was not eager to bring the picture out. I really had to struggle to incorporate it (laughs)!
Concerts are huge these days. Are you planning to perform live?
Yes, that’s the plan. We were supposed to launch the album on March 3, but due to the war situation, we have postponed it to April 15. Still, we planned the entire tour. In April, we will have a show in Mauritius followed by shows in the UK. We have also planned a show in Dubai.
What about India?
Yes, it is under discussion. If I want to do a concert in my country, it has to be really great. In fact, it should be the best (smiles). So, yes, talks are on for shows in Delhi, Mumbai and my hometown, Lucknow.
Another exciting venture from your side is the horror film, Lily Rose – Chapter 1…
It marks my return to the world of horror. The first schedule has been completed and we are being very careful with the film. We are in no hurry at all. In this film you will see me in a new avatar. It’s going to be very scary for the audience (smiles).
Interestingly, you have been addressed as ‘Horror Queen’ on the poster…
(Laughs) A lot of people are telling me this on social media. They’re asking me when I’ll be back with another horror film. Actually, the teaser of Jab hauntThe sequel was released, it created excitement among my followers because they thought I was in the film. I clarified that I am not a part of the film and wished the makers all the best.
Meanwhile, my team suggested that since everyone calls me the horror queen, this tag should be used in the poster of the film. I was a little skeptical about it because I’m an artist and don’t like labels. But my team insisted that this word is widely used by my fans and hence, it found a place in the poster (laughs).
the title of the movie is Lily Rose – Chapter 1. Does this mean a sequel is in the works?
Yes. It will have three parts – Chapter 1, Chapter 2 and the final chapter. Each film will have a different title. Therefore, the second part will not be called lily rose. Right now, the focus is on completing Lily Rose and looking forward to the reaction after its release.
