Matka KingIn Mumbai. Gulshan Grover rocked the show with his charming presence and crowd-pleasing quotes.
Matka King trailer launch: Gulshan Grover reveals that Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, Varun Dhawan were curious about the title of the show; Opens up on his failed ‘Al Pacino’ moment: “I changed clothes in front of the entire unit”
He said, “I’ve always said that’I don’t listen to anyone, I don’t agree with anyone.. But for the first time I met a charming director. I just kept listening to him during the entire shooting of the show. when you see Matka KingYou will realize how this director has created a beautiful web series with the amazing involvement of Amazon Prime Video, writers and producers.
He further added, “I don’t know if I can share it or not. One day, I thought, ‘This director.’ Me Same Clothes Why are you recognizing??’. That day we were shooting one of my scenes in a government office. My logic was that I should dress the best. I convinced the costume guy to give me a spare set of clothes. I wore those clothes. I looked like Al Pacino!”
He further said, ‘Nagraj ji looked at me and asked,’Do you want to wear these clothes??’. ‘Yes, I am visiting a government office,’ I argued. I am a big man. I am The real matka king. I could understand that something was not right with him. He told me clearly, ‘I felt like You wear the same clothes’ (The same one he wore earlier). I swear to God, I didn’t leave the set. I changed clothes in front of the entire unit. I wore old clothes. This is my respect for his creativity.”
Later in the programme, Gulshan Grover revealed, “There are many elements that will entertain you, make you think and it is based on a very interesting world. The day before yesterday, I had dinner with Shatrughan Sinha ji, Rakesh Roshan ji, Shashi Ranjan, Anu Ranjan etc. Often, when you meet an actor, he asks, ‘What are you working on these days?’. I told him, ‘On April 17, Matka King Will be released on Amazon Prime. Everyone became curious by the title of the show. The next question was, ‘Who is the director?’ I replied, ‘Nagraj Manjule’. I accidentally told the name of his movie prank. Anu Ranjan immediately corrected me and said that it has been called outing (2016). This shows how well everyone knows about them.
She also added, “Then, when I told him that Sidharth was the producer, he commented, ‘He always makes interesting content.’ This is the conversation we had based on the title of the show. In this same hall, Akshay Kumar and I were sitting for an award show a few days ago. He is my brother and my friend. He asked me, ‘what new?’. I told him, ‘Amazon of series is coming, Matka King. He was immediately intrigued and this led to a conversation about the show. I had similar conversations with Shahrukh, Varun Dhawan and many others. The title immediately takes you into a very fascinating world.
