Hansika Motwani files Rs 2 crore defamation suit against sister-in-law Muskaan Nancy James amid legal battle
The petition, filed through lawyer Adnan Shaikh, alleges that Muskaan Nancy James made defamatory allegations on social media, including claims of domestic violence involving Hansika and her brother Prashant Motwani. According to the petition, these allegations are baseless and have caused damage to the reputation.
At the center of the controversy is an alleged financial transaction. Hansika Motwani has claimed that Muskaan had borrowed money. 27 lakhs during her marriage to Prashant Motwani and despite repeated attempts she failed to repay the amount. The lawsuit argues that the charges may have been made to avoid repayment of this loan.
The legal clash follows an earlier FIR filed by Muskaan Nancy James against her husband and Hansika Motwani. In her complaint, James accused her of harassment, cruelty and interference in her marriage, as well as claims related to demands made during wedding functions. He also said that relationship stress contributed to him developing Bell’s palsy.
Responding to these allegations, Hansika has denied any involvement, saying that she was not a part of the couple’s household and they had limited interaction in their personal matters. He has consistently insisted that he cannot be held responsible for the allegations made against him.
Apart from the civil suit, Hansika Motwani has also filed criminal defamation proceedings against Muskaan Nancy James before a magistrate’s court in Andheri under relevant provisions of the Indian Justice Code. She had earlier approached the Bombay High Court seeking quashing of the FIR lodged against her, the court had issued notice on her petition.
A statement issued by him emphasized that he has been wrongly implicated in this controversy and has faced continuous defamatory coverage. It reiterated that her participation in her brother’s wedding was minimal and the allegations lack judicial support.
The case, which stems from the strained marriage between Prashant Motwani and Muskaan Nancy James, is now expected to come up for hearing before the Dindoshi sessions court in due course of time.
