A division bench led by Chief Justice Sanjay A Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan rejected the plea that sought to ban the screening of the film across Tamil Nadu until the election results are declared.
According to Bar & Bench report, the petition was filed by a resident of Madurai. It requested an ad-interim direction to stop the screening of the film in theaters and on OTT platforms during the period of the Model Code of Conduct. However, the Court refused to interfere and dismissed the petition at the admission stage.
The petition argued that the film could influence voters.
The petitioner argued that continued screening of the film during the election period could disturb the principle of level opportunity. According to the petition, the release of the film during the Model Code of Conduct could influence voters. It was also argued that allowing the film to be played during the sensitive election phase would be against the spirit of free and fair elections.
The court did not find grounds to grant the requested relief.
