This release adds to his growing list of independent work, marking a clear shift away from mainstream film music towards more personal musical expression.
Arijit Singh teams up with Rua Kay and RUTVXK for ‘Laiyaan’, months after retirement announcement
Featuring Arijit Singh with Rua Kay, composed and produced by RUTVXK,’Liyan’ Leans towards a minimalist and emotionally driven sound. The track is built around restraint rather than scale, focusing on mood, space and lyrical intimacy.
Within hours of its release, the song started receiving a strong response from the online audience. A fan commented on YouTube, “Arijit’s voice makes a different impression when it’s free from Bollywood – it sounds so pure and emotional.” Another listener wrote, “What a pairing – didn’t expect Rua Kay’s voice to rise like this, she deserves more recognition.”

Working with Arijit Dada, who has shaped so many songs that people connect with emotionally, was a learning experience in itself. It made me more aware of how less can sometimes say more, and how important it is to stay true to the emotion rather than overdoing it.”

Arijit always brings a certain emotional clarity to those projects, and that really set the tone for our approach. We kept going back to the same idea – just keep it honest, don’t overcomplicate it.
