Until about two and a half years ago, making films longer than three hours was largely frowned upon. But that perception changed Animal (2023). The film, starring Ranbir Kapoor, was 203 minutes long and yet the audience accepted it with open arms. then came Pushpa 2 – Rules (2024), which had a runtime of 200 minutes. stalwart (2025) went a step further at 214 minutes, while extreme revenge (2026) saw an even longer duration of 229 minutes. between, border 2 (2026) also joins the league with a runtime of 199 minutes. The interesting thing is that all these films emerged as huge earners. And now, Raja Shivaji is all set to join this prestigious club.
Exclusive: Raja Shivaji is 3 hours 15 minutes long; Joins the exclusive club of Animal, Pushpa 2, Dhurandhar, Border 2; CBFC changes child violence scene in Riteish Deshmukh starrer film Exclusively revealed that the historical drama completed its censor process yesterday, April 24. As per censor certificate, Raja ShivajiThe Marathi version is 195.05 minutes long. In other words, its duration is 3 hours, 15 minutes and 5 seconds. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has passed the film with a U/A 16+ certificate.
However, the film had to undergo some revisions as per the advice of the CBFC’s Examination Committee (EC). The producers had to modify the voiceover as well as the disclaimer with more clarity and stronger wording. He also had to add an explanation for choosing the title ‘Raja Shivaji’ for the film. The producers were also asked to submit proper documentation for all the historical references used in the film and a proper script as per the dialogues and songs of the film.
Additionally, the CBFC directed the makers to add specific dates for all major events in the film and also insert text slates for historical events.
Thankfully, it only took two minor cuts Raja Shivaji. The scene of a small boy’s throat being slit was asked to be replaced with a suitable shot. Secondly, the producers were asked to add audio for the muted visuals.
Raja Shivaji Riteish Deshmukh plays the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and is joined by Genelia Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Fardeen Khan, Bhagyashree, Sachin Khedekar, Amol Gupte, Jitendra Joshi and others. It is produced by Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia Deshmukh’s Mumbai Film Company and Jyoti Deshpande’s Jio Studios. It is all set to release in theaters on May 1.
