Michael Box Office Collection: King of Pop Biopic Makes Rs. 20 crore opening weekend in India, best in South India

Michael collected Rs. It grossed around Rs 7.25 crore (USD 775K) in India on Sunday, taking its opening weekend to Rs. ₹ 20 crore (USD 2.10 million) making it not only the biggest opening but also the highest grosser for a Hollywood musical-based film. Earlier, Taylor Swift: The Era’s Tour and Bohemian Rhapsody collected Rs. 13 crores and Rs. 7 crores respectively.

Michael performed best in South India and Mumbai, where Michael Jackson was popular. The three South Indian circuits made up more than 60 percent of the total collections; With the inclusion of Mumbai, this proportion increases to almost 80 per cent. Hindi circuits were less, and this is understandable because local music dominated here, leaving no room for English. Michael Jackson was also a dance icon, and perhaps it is his dancing that was more popular in India than his music, but as it turns out, dance films also traditionally fare well in Mumbai and the South, while underperforming in the North.

On Thursday, it looked like the film would be pre-sales heavy and frontloaded due to advance demand from fans and the high level of business coming from the South. However, it received a good amount of walk-up business over the weekend and showed positive trends. Looking ahead, progress is good for Monday as well, so there could be a performance for this film. The debut itself is a good result for a film like this in India; If it can get some kind of operation, that’s even better.

The box office collections of Michael in India are as follows:

Friday Rupee. 4.50 crores.
Saturday Rupee. 6.60 crores.
sunday Rupee. 7.20 crores.
