Recently, in a press meet, the legendary actor dropped the ‘Pan-India’ tag for his film and clearly said that it is made for Malayalees. Read on to find out why he feels this way.
Mammootty calls Patriot a film made for Malayalees.
Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, Patriot has been the talk of the town for being a high-stakes entertainer starring a number of stalwarts. But when Mammootty underlined that this is a game-changer for Malayalam cinema, the internet started talking.
During a press interaction in Kochi, the actor clarified, “This film is made for Malayalees.” He further said that although the heart of the film lies in Kerala, he hopes it will find an audience outside it as well.
The Vidheyan actor was quick to add, “The primary goal was to cater to the needs of the people of Kerala, whose cinematic tastes have evolved considerably over the years.”
Despite the film featuring a stellar cast like Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Revathi and Nayanthara, the megastar revealed that it is not a pan-India film. He said, “Patriot will be a game-changer. It will set a new standard and hopefully open doors for more big-budget films in Malayalam cinema.”
In the trailer of the film, he is shown clashing with Mohanlal. According to the veteran actor, the fight scenes in the story have a deeper purpose. He said, “These fights are not included just for show. There is a deeper reason behind them, which will become clear after the audience watches the film.”
Patriot stars Mammootty as Dr. Daniel James, a character who goes on a mission to clear his name after being wrongly framed for espionage. On the other hand, Mohanlal plays the role of Colonel Rahim Naik, an armed forces officer. It is noteworthy that the actors will share the screen after 13 years of their film Kadhal Kadannoru Mathukutty.
Filmed over 130 days across various international locations, Patriot is considered to be one of the most expensive productions in the industry.
