Exclusive: Vicky Kaushal frontrunner to play 4th idiot in 3 Idiots sequel alongside Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi

After our massive update on the making of 3 Idiots, IHNS has exclusively learned that Vicky Kaushal is in advanced discussions to join 4 Idiots, which is turning out to be one of the biggest casting developments in recent times. According to our sources, the actor has been roped in to join Aamir Khan, R. The ‘fourth idiot’ is being considered to play a crucial role, joining the iconic trio of Madhavan and Sharman Joshi.

The film, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, is currently in the writing stage, with Hirani and longtime collaborator Abhijat Joshi working on the script. The team is taking its time in writing the script that continues the legacy of 3 Idiots, with the second installment expected to go on floors in the second half of 2027.

Vicky, who has previously worked with Hirani in Sanju and Dunky, is said to have liked the script. Insiders suggest that his character will bring an emotional and fresh story along with the original trio of Aamir Khan and others. The source further added, “Kaushal is keen to share the screen with Aamir Khan and contribute to a franchise that is much missed.”

Before stepping into this world, Vicky Kaushal will be completing his commitments for Mahavatar, which as reported earlier, is expected to go on floors soon and will require an extensive shooting schedule.

Meanwhile, Aamir Khan recently confirmed the development of 4 Idiots and hinted that the story will take a 10-year leap from the conclusion of 3 Idiots. This time leap is expected to explore the evolving lives of the beloved characters while introducing new conflicts. Interestingly, Aamir may also complete another film before starting work on this project, to ensure that the timeline aligns with this film.

With a strong coming-of-age story and the possible addition of Vicky Kaushal, 4 Idiots will surprise the audience in more ways than one.

3 Idiots also stars Kareena Kapoor, Boman Irani, Mona Singh and Omi Vaidya in supporting roles. This cult comedy was written and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, co-written by Abhijat Joshi and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
