The complaint arose after Singh re-enacted a scene during an appearance at IFFI 2025 Kantara: Chapter 1 This included Daiva, the revered deity of the Bhoota Kola tradition of coastal Karnataka, and was called “Bhoota”. The act was criticized by several groups, who alleged that it was disrespectful to the religious and cultural traditions depicted in the film.
Singh had previously issued a public apology, saying, “My intention was to highlight Rishabh Shetty’s incredible performance in the film. From actor to actor, I know how much time it would take to pull off that particular scene the way he did, for which he has my utmost admiration.” He said, “I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief of our country. If I have hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologize.”
The Karnataka High Court accepted Singh’s unconditional apology after he filed an amended affidavit and gave an undertaking to visit the Chamundeshwari temple. The court indicated that the case is likely to be settled after verification of the updated affidavit.
