Late night on May 28, 2026, Subhash Ghai posted a picture on social media featuring Salman Khan, Chitrangada Singh, director Apoorva Lakhia, Kabir Khan, Sooraj Barjatya, Rumi Jaffrey, Riteish Deshmukh and producer Siddharth Roy Kapur. A crowd gathered to see an early version of the film.
Sharing his thoughts, Ghai wrote, “It was beautiful to see my favorite directors together at Food Square today and watch the rough cut of Apoorva Lakhia’s film Matri Bhoomi with lead stars Salman Khan and Chitrangada, based on a touching story of soldiers of India and China with their respective feelings for their nations and families on the theme of mutual peace and respect.”
His statement comes at a time when the film continues to be in the news due to controversies and delays related to its subject matter.

The Salman Khan-starrer was initially expected to release on April 17, 2026. However, the film is yet to get a confirmed release date as it is going through multiple approval stages including defence-related clearances and certification processes.
Meanwhile, writer-director Rumi Jaffrey also shared the same picture from the screening and praised the project. In her social media caption, she wrote, “Watched the first cut of Salman Khan’s Mathrubhumi with the most amazing friends – @subhashghai1 @beingsalmankhan @kabirkhanak @riteishd @chitrangada @lakhiyapoorva, and Sooraj Barjatya.
