Veteran playback singer Suman Kalyanpur, whose melodious voice graced many memorable Hindi film songs of the 1960s and 1970s, died at her Mumbai residence on Sunday evening. She was 89 years old. The singer is known for evergreen tracks like ‘.I don’t love you either.you called and we came,’ And ‘These days discussions about your love and mine,’ reportedly died due to age-related health problems.

Confirming the news, Mangala Khadilkar, author of acclaimed Marathi biography Suman Sugandh, shared details about the singer’s last moments. Khadilkar told PTI, “Suman ji died at her residence in Lokhandwala at around 8 pm due to old age. She passed away peacefully. She was listening to her songs for the last few days.”

With a career spanning several decades, Kalyanpur carved a niche for himself in the Indian music industry during an era dominated by some of the country’s most renowned playback singers. His melodious, expressive voice won the admiration of music lovers and earned him a special place in the golden age of Hindi cinema.

Apart from Hindi cinema, Kalyanpur demonstrated his versatility by recording songs in several Indian languages ​​including Marathi, Bengali, Kannada, Assamese and Oriya. His repertoire also extended beyond film music to devotional songs, ghazals and thumris, showing the depth and range of his musical abilities.

Suman Kalyanpur is survived by his daughter Charu. According to family sources, his last rites will be performed on Monday between 11:30 am and 12 noon at Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai.
