Fatwa issued against Aamir Khan over marriage with Gauri Spratt: Report

According to ANI, Maulana Ibrahim Hussain, the royal chief mufti of the Muslim personal Darul Ifta, said that Aamir’s marriage is not permitted under his interpretation of Sharia because Gauri Spratt is not a Muslim.

A video of the Maulvi discussing the matter has surfaced online. In this he says, “It is haraam for a Muslim man, for the believers, to marry a non-Muslim.”

He further alleged that Muslims who marry non-Muslim women are committing a sin and claimed that such marriages are considered “haram” under his interpretation of Islamic law. According to the cleric, those who do not consider such actions as sins will ultimately be accountable to Allah.

Maulvi’s comment on Aamir Khan’s third marriage

Maulana Ibrahim Hussain, directly referring to the actor, said, “This question is about film actor Aamir Khan. He has recently married a non-Muslim woman for the third time. We have also seen protests in the society regarding this…”

He also commented on multiple marriages, divorce and remarriage, saying that if a person is unable to fulfill the responsibilities of marriage, he should not remarry.

According to ANI, the cleric said that a Muslim man is not allowed to marry a non-Muslim woman unless she accepts Islam.

Aamir Khan’s recent marriage

Aamir Khan married Gauri Spratt in a private registered ceremony at his residence in Mumbai under the Special Marriage Act on July 5, 2026. The intimate celebration was attended by close family members and a few friends.

The actor was previously married to Reena Dutta, with whom he has two children, Junaid Khan and Ira Khan. The couple got divorced in 2002 after 16 years of marriage.

She later married film producer Kiran Rao in 2005, whom they met during the production of rent. They welcomed their son, Azad Rao Khan, through surrogacy in 2011. Aamir and Kiran announced their separation in 2021 and have since remained professional colleagues while co-parenting with Azad.

As of press time, neither Aamir Khan nor Gauri Spratt have publicly reacted to the alleged fatwa or the cleric’s comments.
