As discussions are ongoing on how the series’ signature violence and strong language will be displayed in theatres, director Gurmeet Singh has shared that the makers are developing the film keeping in mind an adults-only certification.

Speaking about the certification process, Singh said that the team has tried to maintain the essence of Mirzapur Working within the guidelines of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
“We are directly targeting adults-only certification. Then, of course, the CBFC has its own guidelines with regard to language, what we can and cannot say. We have tried to manage that and strike the right balance.”
The director believes audiences are open to mature storytelling
Singh also said that he believes audiences have become more receptive to films made for mature audiences, giving filmmakers more creative freedom.
“I also think the audience has matured. If you look at the films Animal, stalwartand many other recent releases, you can see that adult storytelling is now finding a place in theaters. I think it set a precedent that allowed us to bring something like this Mirzapur: The Movie On the big screen without spoiling it.”
The star-studded cast returns for the big screen adaptation
Mirzapur: The Movie Many familiar faces from the popular crime franchise have been brought back, including Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi and Divyendu Sharma. The cast includes Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Duggal, Mohit Malik, Sheeba Chaddha, Rajesh Tailang, Pramod Pathak, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Shekhar Gaur, Shweta Tripathi and Sonal S. Chauhan is also there.
Presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment, the film is directed by Gurmeet Singh and written by Punit Krishna. It is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment, with Kasim Jagmagiya and Vishal Ramchandani as co-producers.
Mirzapur: The Movie Scheduled to release in theaters on September 4, 2026 in Hindi and Telugu.
