A case that first came to light last year through actor Akshay Kumar’s public revelations has now made a significant breakthrough, with authorities confirming the first arrest in connection with attempted sexual assault involving his daughter.
Accused arrested months after Akshay Kumar spoke out on daughter’s online harassment
The incident, which the actor shared during a cyber-awareness event in Mumbai in October 2025, involved his daughter Nitara, who was 13 at the time. Akshay Kumar used his experience to highlight the risks children face on online gaming platforms and the importance of digital awareness.
Months later, in April 2026, police confirmed that an accused had been captured. This update was shared by Additional Director General of Police Yashasvi Yadav during a cyber-awareness session at RD National College.
Talking about the case, Yadav said, “He (Akshay Kumar) had a very shocking story to share with us. He said that his own daughter was being sexually assaulted. The girl was very brave and informed her parents. Through her parents, we got this information and that’s how we handled the case.”
Akshay Kumar had earlier detailed how the situation unfolded when his daughter was playing online video games. Initially, the conversation appeared harmless, with polite exchanges from an unknown player. However, the conversation soon escalated when the person started asking personal questions.
Recalling that moment, the actor had said, “My daughter was playing a video game… You’re playing with a random stranger. When you’re playing, you get a message like, ‘Thank you, it was great’ or ‘You’re doing great’, very polite messages… Suddenly, the person said, ‘Where are you from?’ He wrote, ‘Mumbai’. And then everything became normal.”
The situation turned serious when the stranger asked about her gender and later made inappropriate requests. “Then a message came up, ‘Are you a man or a woman?’ He replied, ‘Woman’. This continued. And then, she sent a message, ‘Can you send me a naked picture of yourself?’ My daughter, he stopped everything. She went and told my wife,” he shared.
The actor had stressed on the importance of awareness among children and parents and how such incidents often start subtle before escalating. He said, “This is how things start. This is also a part of cyber crime. People and children get deceived. Extortion money has to be paid. Many cases of suicide are being reported. In the digital world, it is very important that our children know about this.”
Authorities have not yet disclosed further details about the accused or the ongoing investigation.
