The debate on the ideal difference between the dramatic release and the OTT premiere has found two of Bollywood’s biggest stars at the opposite end. Aamir Khan recently advocated a six -month window to protect the dramatic business, Akshay Kumar has voiced his disagreement, suggesting that a small difference is more practical for all stakeholders.

In a conversation with ABP Live, Akshay insisted that the OTT platform, which invest heavy in digital rights, also deserve fair treatment. “According to me, the difference of three months is fine. Six months are too long because at the end of the day, the OTT platform is paying you for digital rights. They also need to benefit from the deal,” he said.
The actor-producer said that the industry should return to the pre-Panduk model, where theaters and streaming platforms have been kept in co-existence without friction. “When it comes to selling digital rights, producers happily take money from OTT platforms. But when we want, we also easily say that our films are not working because of OTT. We don’t believe that maybe we are not making the right films,” he commented.
Akshay admitted that he consumes an important amount of OTT materials himself to scout talent not only for entertainment, but also for his projects. “I have no other work but to make films. Since I am not educated, I only do films. So, I get a lot of time to watch OTT,” he shared. Accepting your journey, he said, “Thirty percent of the hard work, which should feel that you have worked 100%, but you also need 70% luck to make it. When I enter a studio, I often look better to a struggle, a better dancer, and who takes better action than me, but he has not yet got a chance.”
