Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited final film, Jana Nayagan, has run into new hurdles, further throwing its release into uncertainty. Originally scheduled for a grand theatrical launch on January 9, 2026, the project is reportedly on hold pending certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The delay has disappointed fans who were eagerly waiting to see the superstar on the big screen in what is said to be his last film before he completely dives into his career.
CBFC has not started the review yet
According to multiple reports, the blockage has arisen due to the CBFC’s review committee not starting the review process. Last week it was reported that the newly appointed panel has neither initiated re-censoring proceedings nor provided any official update to the film’s production house, KVN Productions. Without the necessary authentication or acknowledgment, creators are unable to finalize the release plan. Apparently, the lack of clarity has further increased speculation in the industry, leaving the fate of the film hanging in the balance.
Will be considered for June 2026 release
Meanwhile, a new update shared by Valai Pechu suggests that the team is exploring an alternative release window. If the pending formalities are completed on time, the H. Vinoth directorial could potentially hit the theaters in June 2026. The tentative date being considered is Thursday, June 18, which is strategically placed ahead of Vijay’s 52nd birthday and coincides with the long weekend of Muharram.
No official confirmation given
Despite the growing buzz surrounding its June release, the makers of the Vijay starrer have not issued any formal statement. As per reports, it has been indicated that internal discussions are ongoing, with June emerging as the most viable option to resolve the certification hurdles. Till then, the release date of Jana Nayakan remains unconfirmed, with fans waiting for definite news as to when Vijay’s final cinematic film will finally release.
