‘Assi’, directed by Anubhav Sinha and starring Taapsee Pannu in the lead role, saw its first discount Tuesday when the ticket fares were reduced to cheaper rates. The decline is very disappointing as ideally the film should have registered a growth.
The courtroom drama collected Rs. 50 lakh on the fifth day, taking its total earning to Rs. Earned Rs 5.15 crore at the Indian box office. Its first week is expected to be around Rs. 6 crore nett or so. The way Assi is performing is nothing but disappointing. Although the film received mainly positive reviews, it did not make any headway at the box office.
If the film continues at this pace, it will prove to be a failure at the box office and will emerge as another flop this year. A major reason why Assi was not popular is the lack of awareness around its release, as the promotional strategy was very weak.
Moreover, the audience has now come to consider such films as OTT films as they have now gained enough patience to wait for the digital release of the films. Stakeholders need to break this patience and extend the OTT window by about 6 months, otherwise the business of such small/medium sized films is already on the wane.
It will be interesting to see how far Taapsee Pannu’s latest film goes at the box office.
The daily box office collection of Assi is as follows:
| Day | net |
| Friday | Rupee. 1 crore |
| Saturday | Rupee. 1.60 crore |
| sunday | Rupee. 1.50 crores |
| monday | Rupee. 0.55 crore |
| Tuesday | Rupee. 0.50 crore (estimated) |
| Total | Rupee. 5.15 crores |
