The film Assi, directed by Anubhav Sinha and starring Taapsee Pannu, Kani Kusruti, Revathi, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and others, has almost finished its theatrical run at the box office. The courtroom drama started at Rs. 1 crore and around Rs. Collected. Earned Rs 6.50 crore in the first week.
It saw a further sharp decline in the second week, when it fell to around Rs. 2.45 crores. The film touched a new low in the third week with just Rs. Earn. Out of which approximately Rs 90 lakh. 70 lakhs came in the weekend itself. This brings its total revenue to Rs. Nett in India 9.85 crores.
Although the film has got a chance to run for one more week for free, the low level of daily collections shows that the film will not be able to make much progress. Based on current trends, Assi is looking to close at only Rs. Earning Rs 10 crore at the Indian box office. This is almost a third of the box office earnings of Taapsee Pannu and Anubhav Sinha’s previous film ‘Thappad’.
Although Assi received positive reception among the audience, it did not get the kind of support from the audience that it needed. Thus, Assi proved to be a flop at the box office. It will be interesting to see whether the film gets some appreciation upon its digital release.
