Bhabhiji is at home! Fun on the Run starring Aasif Sheikh, Shubhangi Atre, Rohitashv Gaur, Mukesh Tiwari, Ravi Kishan and others continues to struggle at the box office. The comedy entertainer directed by Shashank Bali is priced at just Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. Despite ticket prices being quite low, it grossed Rs 15 lakh on its first Tuesday.
Due to this, the fee for 5 days is only Rs. Earning Rs 1.15-1.20 crore at Indian box office. It is expected that a few lakhs will be added to the film’s earnings and in the initial week the film will earn around Rs. 1.30 crores or so. This may also signal the end of it at the box office, as this weekend there are two new releases coming – Tu Ya Main and O’Romeo, which will push all the non-performing holdover releases out of theatres.
Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain has immense popularity on television and a distinct fan following, but it is not enough to translate into viewership. In short, it’s a big IP on the small screen but it fares poorly on the big screen. Earlier, the same thing had happened with Khichdi – The Movie. Although it was successful at the box office, it was received enthusiastically on television.
Even Indian television’s biggest star Kapil Sharma faced back-to-back failures on the silver screen apart from his debut film. He said, the transition from small screen to big screen has not been very fruitful so far.
Now, the popular OTT show Mirzapur is also coming in the form of a theatrical film. Let’s see if it can end this long curse and make a successful transition from the small/OTT screen to the silver screen.
