Set in Mumbai, the series follows newly appointed DCP Rita Ferreira of Mumbai Crime Branch, played by Bhumi Satish Pednekar, as she finds herself facing off against a ruthless killer in a high-stakes game of survival. Along with Pednekar, the series also stars Samara Tijori and Aditya Rawal in lead roles. Swamp will premiere worldwide on January 30 exclusively on Prime Video.

The focal point of Swamp is DCP Rita Ferreira, a policewoman motivated by justice, yet haunted by guilt and the demons of her past, as she embarks on a chilling pursuit of a ruthless killer. The teaser takes the audience into a world where violence and psychological horror not only shocks, but persists. The atmospheric teaser shows the victims brutally murdered – wrists slashed; mouth strangely filled with raw pieces of meat, mobile phones and other objects; Each crime exposes a deeply distorted mentality. As the investigation deepens, Rita finds herself torn between the brutality of the case and her own inner turmoil, while also having to confront the prejudices within the force. Unrelenting in its depiction of brutality, the teaser makes it clear that this series is not for the faint of heart.

At its core, The Swamp is not just a crime mystery story, but a powerful exploration of trauma and morality – driven not by the question of who committed the crime, but by the more sinister question of why.

Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of Originals, Prime Video India, said, “Crime thrillers make for a compelling watch as they allow us to combine edge-of-the-seat suspense with deep, character-driven storytelling. With Daldal, we aim to push the envelope with a genre-defying narrative.” “The Swamp is not your typical psychological crime thriller. It goes beyond the traditional silliness of asking ‘why’ – weaving together themes of trauma, vulnerability and resilience into its core fabric. We are thrilled to once again join hands with our longtime partners at Abundantia Entertainment to present this series, featuring compelling performances from an extraordinary cast and a distinctive atmospheric tone. Our belief Daldal will entertain and deeply engage audiences in India and across the world.”

“At Abundantia, we have always strived to bring stories that disturb, challenge and linger long after the screen goes black and Daldal is an example of this. It is driven not by show, but by psychological depth and an intense emotional uneasiness that runs through the fabric of the story,” said Vikram Malhotra, Founder and CEO of Abundantia Entertainment and creator of Daldal. “Our endeavor is to break the template of the crime thriller and we have chosen to go beyond the cop-killer story to explore the dark corners of the human psyche. It is always a pleasure to collaborate with the amazing team of Prime Video and take another bold step in our collective commitment to bring impactful stories to life, this time partnering with the indomitable Suresh Triveni. With powerful performances from Bhumi, Samara and Aditya, and under the direction of Amrit Raj Gupta, Daldal Having redefined the crime thriller space by keeping character and consequence at its core, we can’t wait for audiences in India and across the world to experience this engrossing journey when the series premieres worldwide on January 30 on Prime Video.

What impressed me most about The Swamp was its exploration of the often overlooked emotional and psychological origins behind morality and violence, rather than just the act itself. It’s a story about guilt, identity and unresolved wounds, told through the lens of a crime investigation that feels intensely disturbing but personal,” said Suresh Triveni, creator and producer of Daldal. “It was important for us to create a thriller that almost feels scary in the way the scares build quietly, the tension simmers beneath the surface, and each character bears their own scars. In a genre often dominated by external action, we wanted to turn the lens inwards, examining how trauma shapes behavior and how the past refuses to stay buried, something that can only be achieved by a brilliant writing team of Srikanth, Rohan, Priya and Hussain. Bringing this vision to life required extraordinary talent in front of and behind the camera and Bhumi delivers a career-defining performance as Rita, who embodies vulnerability and strength in equal measure alongside a group of equally terrific actors, while Amrit’s direction creates an atmosphere of incredible tension that keeps you engaged. Working together with Vikram and Prime Video, a service we trust deeply creatively, gave us the freedom to explore these darker, more uncomfortable places without compromise. I am looking forward to the premiere of the series in India and across the world on 30th January. I believe Swamp will appeal to audiences looking for crime stories that are introspective and emotionally layered. Gripping stories that ask not only ‘who did it,’ but ‘what made them who they are.'”

The Swamp marks the beginning of an exciting season of crime on Prime, along with the highly anticipated return of Aldis Hodge in season two of Cross, Guy Ritchie’s reimagining and origin story of the beloved detective Sherlock Holmes in Young Sherlock, the gripping and sophisticated forensic mystery Scarpetta starring Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis, and the addictive new novel starring Dove Cameron based on Katherine Ryan Howard’s best-selling novel.
