Bison (Bison Kalamadan) took an opening of Rs. 3 crores in Tamil Nadu. The film grossed approximately Rs. 25 lakhs from the rest of India, mainly from Karnataka, totaling Rs. Earning Rs 3.25 crore on the first day at the Indian box office. The beginning could have been better, because the Mari Selvaraj brand is associated with it, which is continuously giving good hits. Still, considering the film released in conflict with Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude and Harish Kalyan’s Diesel, it’s a commendable start.
On a positive note, the film recorded almost double the occupancy in the night show compared to the morning show. Furthermore, the film has received positive response, which will boost its box office collections over the weekend. After the weekend, benefits of Diwali holidays are also expected. The trends of the coming days will decide in which direction the film is going. Till now Mari Selvaraj has not given any flop film in her career. If Bison manages to register good trends going forward, this director’s streak will continue.
This is the fourth film of Dhruv Vikram, who made his debut in 2019 with the remake of Arjun Reddy, Aditya Varma. Since then, his other two films, including another Arjun Reddy remake, a film with Varma and his father, Chiyaan Vikram, Mahan, were released directly on OTT due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bison proved to be his first theatrical release after six years.
Talking about Mari Selvaraj, the filmmaker has previously directed films like Periyaram Perumal, Karnan, Mamanan and Vaazhai. All these were greatly appreciated by the audience. The director is known for providing hard-hitting dramas woven with subtexts of ethnic violence themes. Bison has a similar theme, although it is a sports drama inspired by a true story.
