Jolly LLB 3 earned Rs. Today on its fifth Friday it has earned Rs 30 lakhs with a steady hold at the box office. The film is also performing well in its last stages, albeit at a lower level. However, this good catch should have come early on. The film has three more days left for the theaters to stop showing. Currently standing at Rs 111.05 crore, the film is expected to end its box office journey at Rs 112 crore. The film is taking its last breaths at the box office before the release of Thamma Aur Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat on October 21.
At one time even achieving the figure of Rs 100 crore seemed difficult. However, the courtroom drama picked up good momentum in the second week and continued to gain popularity, albeit at a lower level. Backed by Star Studios, Jolly LLB 3 will perform average at the box office. Although it is not what is expected from a franchise film, it has performed better than Akshay Kumar’s previous releases – Kesari Chapter 2 and Sky Force.
The primary challenge for such medium-scale films is the change in audience. Nowadays, audiences prefer the digital medium rather than the theatrical experience for such films. Additionally, the 8-week OTT window is weakening their theatrical base as audiences have developed a habit of waiting for a film that doesn’t generate much anticipation or buzz on social media. Jolly LLB 3 managed to garner appreciation, but since initial interest was low, it did not gain the same traction as films in the past. What is needed is to make the theatrical window so long that it becomes inconvenient for the audience to wait.
