Thamma sold around 15,000 tickets across the top national chains till 7 pm (18 October). With two and a half more days left for the release, the film is probably expecting 60,000 – 70,000 sales on PIC (PVR Inox and Cinepolis), which may not be much, but what really matters is how it performs on the release day, as films with negligible progress the day after Diwali have achieved good numbers in the walkup.
The film starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui is releasing in theaters the day after Diwali Lakshmi Puja, which is one of the biggest days for the business, if not the biggest. Advance booking is a factor that plays a major role in deciding the opening day of any movie. However, during the Diwali weekend, progress has always been slow due to the festivities.
Thamma’s opening day figures will largely depend on spot bookings and initial word-of-mouth. If the audience receives it well, the film will see an immediate increase in evening and night shows.
Makers plan paid premiere for Thamma
Continuing the tradition of paid premieres of Munjya and Stree 2, Thamma will have midnight shows on Tuesday, October 21, a day before its nationwide release. The challenge for Thamma will be to match the preview collection of Stree 2.
For those unaware, Thamma is a vampire-comedy set after the events of Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Stree 2. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma is releasing alongside Harshvardhan Rane’s Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat.
