We’re only a few weeks away from the magic that Bridgerton season 4 left for us, but it seems like it’s already calling us for more after the announcement of Bridgerton season 5, which will cover the love story between Francesca (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela (Masali Baduza) following the demise of the former’s husband and the latter’s cousin, John Sterling. The quirky romance will cover the story of how two former sisters-in-law become each other’s greatest companions and lovers after her demise and the scrutiny of the society.
Everything We Know About Bridgerton Season 5
The relationship between Francesca and Michaela will evolve from cousins to partners in the upcoming season, which grows after John’s demise and is based on Julia Quinn’s sixth Bridgerton book, When He Was Wicked (2004). In the original story, Michael, a self-proclaimed and ton-certified ‘rake’, sets his sights on Francesca, now a widow, and decides to turn their relationship into more than friendship. There, he will profess his love for her, becoming her support during her widowhood, and they will marry and start a family of their own.
Same-sex romance takes center stage in the adapted version of the story. Due to Michaela being a gender-swapped version of the main character, Shondaland and the creators of the project are getting a lot of attention. The book’s two characters struggle with their grief and Francesca’s infertility, the latter of which remains a matter of concern as plans change.
It also remains to be seen how the couple is able to explain to the society about their relationship between two women. It was recently confirmed that Tega Alexander, Jacqueline Boatswain and Gemma Knight Jones have joined the cast for the upcoming season. It will run for eight episodes as filming is currently underway in London and production has begun. Although an official date has yet to be announced, Bridgerton season 5 is expected to be released sometime in 2027.
