Breaking away from decades of glittering on-screen glamour, Bollywood icon Karisma Kapoor is taking her career into extremely intense, uncharted territory. Streaming giant ZEE5 has officially unveiled the teaser for its upcoming web series Brown, giving audiences the first glimpse of the actress in her most transformational avatar yet.
Brown teaser out: Karisma Kapoor plays a troubled Kolkata policeman in Abhinay Deo’s neo-noir thriller, watch
Set against the sinister, morally fractured backdrop of Kolkata, Brown is a neo-noir psychological crime thriller that extends far beyond the traditional murder mystery. The teaser features Karisma in the role of Rita Brown, a highly resilient officer of the Kolkata Police Force. The gritty visuals and deeply emotionally charged atmosphere immediately set a dark tone, establishing the series as a deeply layered psychological portrait. Ditching her familiar, expressive style and donning a rugged, naked look, the first look of Karishma promises a fearless, unfiltered performance.
As one of the few leading ladies of the 90s who continues to seamlessly connect across generations, Karisma Kapoor has constantly adapted to the changing digital storytelling formats. Brown is making one of the boldest narrative shifts of her career as she embraces contemporary character complexities on OTT platforms. Portraying an emotionally broken officer battling deep-seated personal demons while investigating disturbing metropolitan crimes, the actress takes a dramatic leap into pitch-black storytelling territory.
The series is helmed by director Abhinay Deo, who brings a suspenseful, tough atmosphere to complement Karishma’s strong and flexible performance. If the first snippet is any indication, Brown is shaping up to be a definite milestone in the actress’ digital filmography, presenting her in an avatar unlike anything she’s attempted before.
